A menu and program for the Eleventh Annual Banquet of the Association of Civil Engineers at Cornell University. The banquet took place on Saturday Evening, March 14, 1914 in the A. G. Cafeteria on campus. The illustrations on the menu are humorous, with the cover depicting a man in a tweed suit sitting on a Surveyor's level, with the caption, "This is on the Level, Give it the Once Over". The other two illustrations are under the subtitles of 'Menu' and 'Toasts', with the first illustration depicting the head of a man in the place of where a plate would go with silverware on either side, and the second depicting the head of man, rolling his eyes, wearing a halo and wings. On the menu there are such options as oyster cocktail, queen olives, prime roast beef with mushroom sauce, petit pois a l'anglaise and caramel ice cream. Fatima cigarettes where also provided "furnished by courtesy of Liggett and Meyers Tobaco [sic] Co." There were several remarks and addresses given by engineering professors, alumni, and the president of the association. The entertainment for the night was a vocal performance and two 'stunts', one of which appears to have been performed with a 'mandolin', though that word has been penciled in by the stunt on the program. Lastly there is a page listing the current committee members of the association, and several pages for autographs of fellow member attending the banquet. On the top of the first autograph page, above the header is "G. F. Whitney, Table 7". It is unclear if this program originally belonged to him or if he just chose sign his name in an unusual location. However, he is mostly likely Guy Frank Whitney (1889-1987) who graduated Cornell University in 1914 with a degree in Civil Engineering. 8 pg. Illustrated tan wrappers. Staple binding. The College of Engineering is a division of Cornell University that was founded in 1870, and is currently ranked 14th nationally by the US News and World Report. As for the Association of Civil Engineers, it is unclear if this was a student organization at the University or the University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
