The Oregon Forest Resources Institute, established by the state legislature in 1991, commissioned Wells and Anzinger (both forestry, Oregon State U.) to explore conditions in Oregon's forests at the time of the 1805 Lewis and Clark Expedition, and examine how a better understanding of forest history can help guide future forestry decisions.
