About this Item

4to. pp. [16], 319, [3], 47, [57]. Bound in late 18th to early 19th century quarter calf. Some careful restoration to head cap and outer joints. Interior pages are generally clean with some leaves age-toned / browned; inscription in a miniscule old hand on title page; name printed on front free fly-leaf; marginal tear on 8th leaf neatly sealed. A couple pages have a torn or clipped lower right marginal corner (not affecting text). Jacob Wemmers was a Carmelite scholar from Antwerp. His "Lexicon Aethiopicum" which was published for the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, was the first serious Ethiopic or Ge’ez – Latin dictionary and grammar to be printed. An interesting work for the history of Biblical Oriental studies. [Fumagelli, Bibliografia etiopica, 1184; Gay 2599]. Bookseller Inventory # 000353
