The Lexicon of Silence

What if love was always there—
but no one translated it?

In a small two-room apartment built on sacrifice and silence, Rashid and Zeenat Ali raise their son the only way they know how: through endurance, provision, and unspoken devotion. Their love is steady, practical, and relentless—measured in patched shoes, faded sarees, and midnight calculations that no one sees.

Amir grows up at the center of this quiet fortress. He is protected from lack, shielded from fear, and surrounded by care that never announces itself.

Until he learns a new language.

In college, in friendships, in a louder world where affection is spoken freely and pride is declared out loud, Amir begins to compare. Silence starts to feel like absence. Provision starts to resemble obligation. The fortress that once felt safe now feels airless.

And one question—sharp, careless, devastating—fractures everything:

“Tumne mere liye aaj tak kiya hi kya?”
What have you ever even done for me?

The Lexicon of Silence is a deeply moving literary novel about generational love, emotional translation, and the quiet tragedies born from misunderstanding.

It is not a story about neglect.

It is a story about love that was never verbalized—and therefore never recognized.

For readers who have ever struggled to understand their parents.
For parents who loved fiercely but spoke softly.
For anyone who has mistaken silence for emptiness.

Because sometimes, love was never missing.

It was simply written in another language.
