While Papa is off fighting with the Liberation Army, Viktor, little Marina, and Mama must abandon their possessions and flee their home with the other refugees, and as they embark on an arduous journey, Viktor thinks about what he left behind--his books, his room, and the fish his little sister adored--and ponders what the future might bring.

PETER SYLVADA graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His first picture book, A Symphony of Whales, won the Christopher Medal and was named a New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Book and a Smithsonian Magazine Notable Book. He lives in Cardiff, California.
