First edition. Cloth. Cardboard slip case. 1500 copies printed. The Library was begun in 1800 when the federal government was relocated from Philadelphia to the new "Federal City" on the Potomac. The first order of books consisted of 740 volumes. A new library buiIding was completed in 1897. In 1956 the Library had 11,000,000 books and pamphlets. Bookseller Inventory # 1569
