Pablo Neruda escribi� a lo largo de su vida un n�mero infinito de poemas dedicados a cada persona, animal, mineral y cosa que puebla el universo. Y despu�s de su muerte siguieron apareciendo poemas que se convirtieron en m�s libros, por si a�n faltaba alguien a quien cantar. De todos esos libros �ltimos, este Libro de las preguntas es uno de los m�s singulares. Lo public� por vez primera la editorial argentina Losada el a�o 1974; en Espa�a la primera edici�n la hizo Seix Barral en 1977.

Seg�n algunos comentaristas, el libro es una especie de testamento po�tico donde la mirada sorprendida del ni�o convive con la del hombre sabio. Seg�n otros, supone un reencuentro del poeta con algunos entusiasmos tempranos: las luner�as de Lorca, las greguer�as de Ram�n y las chifladuras vanguardistas.
Isidro Ferrer, ilustrador de esta edici�n del Libro de las preguntas, trabaja indistintamente para mayores y para ni�os. Trabaja sobre todo para �l, que es la forma de acertar siempre. Y en lugar de proponer respuestas imposibles a preguntas imposibles, ha perseguido el imposible m�ximo, que es convertir un libro de poemas en un teatrillo a medio camino entre La Barraca de Lorca y el circo de Calder. Neruda hace el papel de Neruda y el de Capit�n del Submarino Amarillo, mientras que Isidro representa todos los dem�s papeles.
