Can I Lick the Spoon?

Over 100 extraordinary recipes from "Yum-Yum Salad" to "Shrimp Empanadas" make this cookbook a peerless treasure. But the real gems of the book are the children of Laurel Elementary School in Oakland, California, who donated family recipes, devised illustrations, and cooked their hearts out to benefit their school. This is community building at its best.

Can I Lick the Spoon? also includes stunning gourmet menus from innovative celebrity chefs like Martin Yan, Bradley Ogden, and Alice Waters—chefs who were inspired by the cookbook project and by the dedication and spirit of the children of Laurel Elementary School.

This cookbook project is part of the Community Relations program at Alibris, where every Wednesday for three months staff members got together to cook the students' recipes and taste-test the results—and had a blast doing it!

So whether you give the book as a gift to someone who loves to cook and cares about the community, or you put it on your own kitchen shelf, you'll find this is a cookbook that holds a very special place in many hearts. All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit Laurel School.

Recipes for this book were contributed by staff members of Alibris, the leading global supplier of hard-to-find books, students of Laurel Elementary School, located in Oakland, California, and 12 Bay Area chefs, including Michael Mina of Aqua, Alice Waters of Chez Panisse, and Annie Somerville of Greens.
