Hardcover with no DJ. Purple cloth over boards with gold lettering on spine. Title and copyright pages dated 1891. 370 pages with 1 additional page advertising "Wallingford" by the same author. Front board loosely attached to binding. 2 inch area of fading on bottom left corner of front board. 1 inch area of fading on bottom right corner of rear board. Gold lettering on spine is shiny and legible. Minor shelf wear at top and bottom edges of spine. Fore edges toned. Brown front and rear endpapers. Gutter torn at front endpapers. Front free endpaper and first 3 pages are unattached from binding but still included. Portrait of Benjamin Harris Brewster as frontispiece, protected by tissue paper. Tiny spots of toning on title page. 1/4 inch closed tears at top right corner of title page. Pages are in excellent shape. Text is clean and legible. Binding secure with no missing pages.
