(1879) Rebound in blue cloth, 287 pages, illustrations, light scattered foxing, and some light damp-staining to a couple pages. This is the 4th issue with the word “Ohio” substituted for “Iowa” on page 32 and has no publication date. According to Adams the next printing was in 1880 with the title being, “The True Life…” Six-Guns 68 states that it was first printed in 1875 in St. Louis by John T. Appler, Publisher and Proprietor. “this book served as the fountainhead for many later and less accurate volumes.” Rader 160, One-Fifty 2, “This is the first book dealing with the James gang, and was published during their activities.”.
