The second edition of this scarce work, a decidedly unflattering brief biography of Judge Jeffreys. The second edition of this mid eighteenth century biography of George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffrey, the Welsh judge remembered for serving as Lord Chancellor during the reign of King James II, known as 'the hanging judge' due to his bias and harsh judgements. He had a key role in the Bloody Assizes, during which hundreds of people were tried and many executed for treason.ESTC reference number T168213.This scarce work presents a disdainful view of the notorious figure. Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, with pages generally clean, with only the odd spot. Very Good Indeed.
