Text block with all edges gilt. 12 chromolithographic plates with tissue guards, including frontispiece; monochrome decorations in the text. Boards with light edgewear; corners bumped; dark stain on upper corner of front board. Front free endpaper with contemporary inscription (dated 1882) and bookseller's pencil annotations; small binder's sticker on rear pastedown. Pages with occasional foxing spots; heavier foxing to half title page and in a couple of other places. One gathering of 3 leaves near front of volume is detached; gutter starting to crack in one other place.
