Life Events and Psychological Functioning: Theoretical and Methodological Issues

Paperback in good condition, some bumps to cover but overall good. 1988 Sage edition. . This volume provides an updated account of current trends in an increasingly popular research topic - the effects of life events. It focuses on recent theoretical and methodological advances in empirical research and examines the relationship between life events and psychological functioning. The contributors consider the accumulation of life events from two perspectives: through paper and pencil questionnaires, a paradigm which has dominated North American research; and through interview methodology, an approach favoured in the UK and Europe. The book considers life events in child, adolescent and geriatric populations. It also discusses the contributions of small events to stress, the effects of positive events and adjustments to stressful life events. The contributors - a prestigious group of researchers - make a substantive contribution to the social and behavioural sciences. 0-8039-2821-1.
