Printed by Hopkins & Seymour, No. 118 Pearl Street, 1807. Fair only quality book considering its age. 8-11/16" x 5-3/8", 376 numbered pages includes a 35-page "Appendix". The book is square, with all the corners rubbed and worn and head and heel damaged (see photo) with the top 1/2" and bottom 1/4" of the spine missing. The front board is loose and free whereas the rear board is attached but wobbly. The spine has a black applique with gilt lettering that is pretty much intact. When the book is stood up, the rear board is so loose that the text block falls to the surface that the book is on. There is a piece of long-ago tape on the top of each board at the spine. The first two, blank, pages are loose and laid-in and all the pages up to the frontis have a very dark brown 1/2" wide strip along the edges. On the page before the frontis, in graceful script, is the following: "Reviewed. See Edinburgh / Review, Vol 13. p. 148, / Anthology vol. 4. p. 663." An early owner's name ("Wm Plumer's[?]) is written on the title page. The interior is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and paper damage of any type--the text block is in very good condition. The paper is lightly toned and reasonably flexible--it fans rather well. The last several pages also have that 1/2" strip of brown stain.
