brown binding, stamped floral illustrations on front and back, stamped gilt illustrations and lettering on the spine, b&w fronticepiece engraving of Putnam and a wolf being pulled out of a cave by men and women watching, 9 illustrations and maps of West Point and Boston within their environs, 26 chapters plus 3 appendices starout with Putnam's early life and youthful adventures, his marriage and settlement in CT, followed by a first military campaign in the French War, as a ranger in 1776, rreceived promotion to Major in 1757, fought in Ticonderoga, the west indian islands and was promoted again to colonel and became a Major General later during the Revolutionary War with England, the ends of the spine and binding board tips have been rubbed and there is foxing intermitantly throughout the book without creating difficulty in reading the textblock, 383 pages.
