Life and Labours of the Rev. Fossey Tackaberry: With Notices of Methodism in Ireland

Life And Labours Of The Rev. Fossey Tackaberry: With Notices Of Methodism In Ireland by Robert Huston. This biographical work chronicles the life and ministry of Fossey Tackaberry, a prominent Irish Methodist preacher, detailing his birth in 1796 near Ballycanew, his early commitment to holiness, and his lifelong evangelistic labours across Ireland. The narrative intertwines his personal spiritual development with the wider Methodist mission in Ireland, including the open-air preaching of Gideon Ouseley and Charles Graham, the revival movements under Rev. A. Taylor, and the challenges posed by political upheaval and Roman Catholic participation in public life. Emphasizing sanctification, closet prayer, and practical pastorate, the book portrays Tackaberry’s perseverance through various circuits—Dublin, Drogheda, Belfast, Cork, and finally Sligo—highlighting his impact on Sabbath schools, class meetings, and mission-work, as well as his family life and enduring fidelity to his calling. It closes with reflections on his death from typhus in 1847 and his lasting legacy within 19th-century Irish Methodism.
