Life and Letters of Frederick W. Robertson, Ed. by S.A. Brooke

Life And Letters Of Frederick W. Robertson, Ed. By S.A. Brooke — Frederick William Robertson. This two-volume collection, edited by Stopford A. Brooke, compiles Robertson's life, letters, and sermons to illuminate his humane reforming zeal and prophetic pulpit. Volume II details Robertson's Brighton years (1851–1853), his growing interest in social questions, his engagements with Maurice, Kingsley, and Drew, and his responses to the press campaigns against him. It traces his declining health, the Sundays he spent lecturing on Corinthians to working men, and his advocacy for the working class through the Mechanics' Institute. The narrative also covers his controversial stance on the Crystal Palace, the Sabbath, and other ecclesiastical issues, his insistence on a positive, inward-spirited religion, and his effort to unite opposing church factions. The book includes letters from prominent contemporaries (Drew, Drummond, Carlisle, Jameson) and extensive appendices with Robertson's own letters and notes, forming a comprehensive portrait of a life devoted to truth, duty, and the service of others, and a testament to the lasting influence of his ministry.
