Harper's Popular Edition. Hardcover. 8 1/8" X 5 1/4". 416pp; 422pp, plus 8pp ads. Red cloth over boards. Rather heavy edgewear to binding, with corners bumped and cloth split, heavy rubbing and tears to cloth at head and tail of spine, with head and tailband visible, and light scattered rubbing. Tear to front pastedown. Hinges tender, with tear to rear inner hinge. Binding remains sound. Previous owner's name to front free endpaper, dated 1893, with notes to rear free endpaper. Pages are clean and unmarked. An admittedly edgeworn but still quite handsome 1875 printing of both volumes in one of the letters and biography of historian, essayist, and Whig politician Thomas Babbington Macaulay (1800-1859), by his nephew G.
