This is an antique biography of the Father of the American Navy - "The Life of Rear Admiral JOHN PAUL JONES" by John S.C. Abbott. Circa 1880 or earlier (the book is undated, though the year "1880" has been hand-written on the front end paper); Dodd, Mead & Company; New York. This copy features a two-page battle illustration at the front, a portrait of Jones on the title page, and other illustrations. The book is a patriotic, historical account of the famous Revolutionary War naval commander. It covers his early life and beginnings at sea, his daring naval battles and victories supporting American independence, and his later career adventures serving in Russia and living in France.

Condition:
Clean front cover and spine; the back cover has a dark 4" line across the center of the board. Cloth tears at the cover corners. The top edge of the spine is worn down. Small tears and bits of cloth missing at the bottom edge of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The text pages are in nice condition - clean with only some light foxing and smudging on page 22. Name/date (1880) written in pencil on the front end paper. The front pastedown has some light pencil scribbles. Name/address written in pencil on the following end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.
