Engraved folding map. 8 volumes, 8vo ( 6 3/8 x 4 inches), pages: xxiv:325; viii:344; ix:323; xii:343; viii:341; viii:342; viii:381; & xi:431. Contemporary full blue calf, sides ruled in gilt. Spines gilt on wide raised bands, with lettering and numbering pieces, all edges marbled. Spines uniformly faded to brown. An attractive set in very good condition. Two further volumes of "Miscellaneous Anecdotes of the Doctor's other friends and acquaintences" were subsequently published. The present 8 volumes comprise the entire Life of Jhnson and the Journal of His Tour to the Hebrides. Modern bookplate on front fly leaves. Weight 2.8 kg thus extra overseas postage will be requested.
