The Life-Smart Kid: Teaching Your Child to Use Good Judgement in Every Situation

Assists parents in showing their children how to examine important subjects like drugs, sex, rules, and laws and how to use good judgment concerning them, how to increase their self-knowledge, avoid irresponsibility, and rebound from mistakes. IP.

Kids may be computer-literate, environmentally aware, and exposed to new ideas daily, but do they have common sense? Probably not, according to Greene (Kids Who Underachieve, LJ 4/1/86), but he reassures the reader that good judgment can be learned. To help parents teach their children the critical thinking skills they will need, Greene has created this down-to-earth manual filled with charts, checklists, stories, interactive games, and mind exercises. A number of these are used to train the child in the problem-solving system known as DIBS?Define problem, Investigate the cause, Brainstorm, Select an idea to try. Too many kids at age 13 lack the good sense to see danger, avoid unhealthy risks, and handle daily stress; Greene's book can help their parents to help them.
