The Life of St Martin of Tours

The Life of St Martin of Tours, written by Sulpitius Severus, tells the story of the Roman soldier who became a monk, a priest and then Bishop of Tours in France.

St Martin served as a soldier in the Roman army until he was drawn to the monastic life. He was later ordained a priest and then bishop of the city of Tours. Although he lived far from Egypt, he is honoured across the Church, and the Coptic Church celebrates his feast on the 14th of Hatour.

This classic account was written by Sulpitius Severus, and it remains one of the most important sources for St Martin's life. It shows a saint who combined the discipline of a soldier with the humility of a monk and the care of a true shepherd.

The book is for everyone who loves the lives of the saints, for readers interested in early Western Christianity and monasticism, and for families and servants looking for inspiring stories of faith and courage to share with young people.

It is part of the series All Time Heroes from All Times, which presents the lives of saints and heroes of faith of the Church from the time of Jesus until today.
