In this short but powerful book, Andrew Zwerneman lays out a compelling case for reinvigorating how we study the Humanities. It offers both an argument for their inlcusion in any good education as well as a vision for how to renew our approach to teaching them. It is an inspiring treatise on how the humanities draw us together and help us make sense of the life we share as human beings.
Praise for The Life We Have Together :
“Andrew Zwerneman has written a deeply learned, moving, and instructive reflection on humane learning—on how teachers and students together can recover the beauty, wisdom, and blessings of Western culture, which have been all but abandoned by the most powerful academic movements of our time. Zwerneman demonstrates by example how reading philosophy, history, and imaginative literature; studying a painting, a building, or a poem; listening to a song or watching a movie can and should enrich our souls and our lives together and help us see, love, and live in the world into which we are born. Love and freedom animate every page of this love of the truth, of what is good, of our neighbors, and of God; freedom of the mind to seek and find the truth that is most worthy of love and to live a life inspired and guided by this truth. Such love and such freedom are the concern of liberal and humane education, to which Andrew Zwerneman has devoted his life. The Life We Have Together is a testament to that high devotion.”— Christopher Flannery, Senior Fellow of the Claremont Institute
