Life Under The Sun: Finding What Matters in a World That Doesn't Last

What if you got everything you wanted—and discovered it still wasn’t enough? Solomon had wealth, power, pleasure, accomplishment, wisdom, and virtually unlimited opportunity. He pursued the things people have been chasing ever since, then stepped back and asked a brutally honest question: What did any of it really accomplish? His answer became the book of Ecclesiastes. Life Under the Sun follows Solomon’s search for meaning through a world that is beautiful, frustrating, enjoyable, unfair, temporary, and ultimately impossible to hold onto. Again and again, he reaches for satisfaction only to discover that he is grasping after the wind. But Ecclesiastes is not a book about despair. It is a book about learning to see life clearly. With humor, personal stories, biblical exposition, and the occasional uncomfortable observation, Jim Jacobson walks through Solomon’s search and the questions it raises for us today. What deserves our time? What can we actually keep? How should we live when we don’t know what tomorrow will bring? And what changes when we stop looking only under the sun and begin looking beyond it? Life is short. The days are moving quickly. Solomon’s ancient search still has something urgent to say about how we live ours.
