Life on Other Worlds and How to Find It (Springer-Praxis Books) (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration)

SETI -- the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence -- is undergoing something of a renaissance, and alongside the work of the scientists almost a million PC users round the world are participating in the SERENDIP IV project through the "SETI at Home" initiative from Berkeley University in California. This book is an up-to-date review of todays scientific thinking about where and how we might find life elsewhere in the universe, presented in Stuart Clarks easily read yet authoritative style.

FROM THE REVIEWS: SIR PATRICK MOORE (FROM THE FOREWORD) "Is there life beyond the earth?...In this book, Stuart Clark presents a masterly survey on the whole problem...In my view it is the best of its kind that I have seen...” JOURNAL OF THE BRITISH ASTRONOMICAL ASSOCIATION "(Stuart Clark) has the rare ability to explain technically difficult concepts in simple language that can be widely understood.” SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: ASTRONAUTICS & ASTRONOMY "Clark introduces the growing field of astrobiology or bioastronomy with considerable humor and clear, concise writing. The books depth is remarkable for a work that can be understood by any educated reader with minimum study, and it contains an excellent stepwise discussion of the Second Law of Thermodynamics that takes readers slowly through this complex law over three chapters...Highly recommended for anyone interested in a quick but thorough introduction to the study of life on Earth and in the universe outside of Earth. All levels.”
