A practical, down-to-earth book which offers guidance for creating unique rites of passage to mark some of life's major milestones, including weddings, child namings, and funerals.The author considers the fundamental purpose of each ceremony and the flow of emotion that it is likely to generate, then offers sample texts to help celebrants to create inclusive and meaningful liturgies appropriate for each individual occasion. The importance of involving families and close friends in the planning of a ceremony is emphasised throughout the book. Each chapter is illustrated by case studies of innovative services created and conducted by Unitarian ministers and lay leaders in recent times.
