One hundred bolts of lightning strike the earth every second. Each bolt has two or more electrical flashes moving quicker than the eye can see. In Lightning, find out about the powerful forces inside a thundercloud, how lightning forms, and what happens when it strikes. You'll see amazing close-up photographs of lightning, and you'll learn some handy safety tips for the next time a storm comes up. Science writer Stephen Kramer and award-winning photographer Warren Faidley present an engaging text and dramatic photographs for a fascinating look at the natural phenomenon of lightning.
Stephen P. Kramer has had a lifelong interest in natural history. After receiving degrees in biology from Pacific Lutheran University and Northern Arizona University, he taught junior high school science for four years on the Navajo Reservation. He spends his time now as a househusband and writer. His first book for children was Getting Oxygen: What do you do if you're cell twenty-two? Mr. Kramer lives with his wife and two sons in Vancouver, Washington.
Warren Faidley, the "Cyclone Cowboy", has experienced more extreme weather events than anyone, including baseball-sized hail, flash floods, lightning strikes, an F5 tornado, and the interior of a category 5 hurricane. Warren makes his living year round as a professional storm-chaser. He works with the Discovery and Weather channels, and was a primary consultant on the film Twister. He lives in Arizona.
