Now in its fourth edition, this highly regarded text has been streamlined and updated for an undergraduate audience. The book's primary focus is feedback control systems concepts for continuous-time plants, with an emphasis on root locus analysis and design methodologies. Topics include Laplace transforms, state-space representations of systems, root locus methods, frequency domain interpretations of systems, compensators and observers, pole placement and eigenstructure assignment, linear quadratic regulators, robustness, and quantitative feedback theory techniques. The text employs many examples of feedback control systems from several disciplines (electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, etc.) to give the reader physical insight into their theoretical development. It also demonstrates the use of computer-aided design tools to assist and simply the design process.
