Little Britches Rodeo. This item is unavailable.Little Britches Rodeo

Describes the rules and the events of the annual Little Britches Rodeo for boys and girls from eight to eighteen-years-old.

Grade 3 Up A thorough presentation of a well-established competition for young people between the ages of 8 and 18 involving over 18,000 cowboys and cowgirls. The events are designed to test participants' developing skills, and many are as dangerous as their professional counterparts. Tinkelman describes each event briefly but thoroughly, with mention of judging criteria and time limits. The real attraction is the book's terrific black-and-white photographs, taken by Tinkelman with help from his children. The brief captions are almost unnecessary. A mud-covered steer wrestler in a soggy arena and a young cowboy being tossed from a bucking bronco are eloquent portraits of the hardships of rodeo competition. The concentration on the young faces shows clearly; for them, rodeo is not a game. The shy pride of a junior bull-riding champion comes through loud and clear as he displays his prize saddle. Where rodeo is popular, this book will be eagerly received. Elsewhere, it will give insight into a sport that deserves wider attention. No one could fail to be impressed by the courage and hard work shown here or miss the fun and excitement that run through the pages. Lucy Young Clem, Evansville-Vanderburgh County Public Lib . , Ind.
