Reviews
Ages 1-3. The author of previous board books, My Little ABC Book (1998) and My Little 123 Book (1998), Staake offers two more concept books in the same format. Color begins, "Red Fox / White Mouse / Gray Elephant / Orange Tiger." Each double-page spread introduces two animals and two colors, moving from darker to lighter shades. Opposites features animal and human characters in illustrations that contrast ideas such as big and little or day and night. Although many board books introduce concepts, Staake's are notable for the sophistication of their graphic design. Simple enough to hold the attention of toddlers, these colorful, computer-enhanced images are also visually interesting enough to please preschoolers and parents as well. Carolyn Phelan
