Little Lessons For Little Folks; Containing 1. The Little Sweepers; 2. The Mistake; 3. The Widow & Her Only Son; 4. Ask, And Learn; 5. Village Annals; Or, Truth And Falsehood by Mary Belson. This collection of didactic tales for children offers moral narratives designed to guide young readers in virtue, honesty, industry, and compassion. The Little Sweepers follows two London orphan boys who, through honest labor and kindness, rise from poverty while one of them adopts integrity over easy temptation. The Mistake presents a family lesson on truth-telling and humility when a day-counting miscommunication leads to a falsehood later acknowledged with candor. The Widow & Her Only Son tells of Philip Wallace, a brave boy whose courage saves a drowning man and a child, ultimately securing aid for his impoverished mother and transforming his life and community. Ask, And Learn centers on Charlotte’s inquisitiveness about everyday crafts, science, and the value of learning. Village Annals and Truth and Falsehood explore community life, forgiveness, and moral choice. The volume reflects early-19th-century English conduct literature for youth.
