The Little Mapmaker: A Story About Imagination, Drawing, and Making the World a Place You Can Go

Maya Drew a Castle. The Castle Was Real.

Maya is five, and she draws maps. Maps of her bedroom. Maps of the kitchen. Maps of the backyard with the tire swing. Her dog Pepper sits beside her with a red bandana while she works. Then one day Maya draws a castle deep in the tall grass - and when she walks out to find it, it is exactly where she put it.

Soon a river runs through a crack in the sidewalk because she sketched fish in it. A treehouse village appears in Mr. Chen's willow tree because she added one with a green crayon. Maya is not just making maps anymore. She is making places people can go.

A picture book for the child who draws everything, for the parent who watches a small imagination get bigger, and for anyone who has ever wondered if a crayon could really be that powerful.

Perfect for: creative children, art lovers, bedtime, conversations about imagination and possibility, ages 3 to 6.
