Story about an Irish woman who comes to America disguised as her deceased brother to gain an inheritance. Rida Johnson Young (1875?1926) was an American playwright, songwriter and librettist. In her career, Young wrote over thirty plays and musicals, and over 500 songs. This book was the retelling of the 1923 Cosmopolitan Silent Movie starring Marion Davies, Harrison Ford and directed by Sidney Olcott . At that time, Davies was one of Hollywood's most popular female stars. Cast also included: Mary Kennedy, Gypsy O'Brien. The film was produced by William Randolph Hearst's Cosmopolitan production unit. Was filmed again in 1940, directed by Henry King, starring Alice Faye and Fred McMurray. Hardcover has green cloth boards, black lettering on spine and black shadowbox in shape of a shield on front, but no DJ. Both gutters torn yet text is still tightly bound. Inscribed as 1924 Christmas gift on ffep, adds no value. Interior is tight, shows handling and is otherwise unmarked. 12 scenes, including fontis, are un-numbered glossy sheets, rear blank, interspersed. iv+307+24photos+ 8pp advertisements. Copyright 1923.
