The Littlehampton Bequest . Foreword by Roy Strong [With:] Autograph Note, signed ("Love, Osbert")

First American edition. Illustrated. 1 vols. 8vo. The Littlehampton Bequest traces the heritage of Lancaster's creation, Maudie Littlehampton, who was a debutante in Lancaster's Faces (1950). A romp through British history and British art history. Tipped in at the back of this whimsy is a printed card produced when Lancaster was knighted in 1975, reproducing a self-caricature of the artist as a mounted knight, with the formula "Very many thanks for your kind and morale sustaining message", addressed in ink "Dear Isadora . are you coming over this summer? We think the garden much improve. Love, Osbert L". See M. Gineri, "The Pleasure in Collecting Osbert Lancaster", Private Library (Winter 2023), p. 181 Yellow cloth, pictorial endsheets. Fine in very good plus dust jacket (some wear at top of spine panel).
