Illustrated softcover facsimile reprint. Reproduces Pike's nineteenth-century ritual and instructional material concerning the three foundational Masonic degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow-Craft, and Master Mason. A substantial work of Masonic history and symbolism, presenting ceremonial procedures, monitorial instruction, philosophical commentary, and numerous diagrams of traditional Masonic emblems, implements, and geometric figures. The publisher's introduction explains its relationship to Pike's The Porch and the Middle Chamber: The Book of the Lodge and discusses the influence of French Masonic ritual and the symbolism of Eliphas Levi. The historical text includes a Charleston title page bearing the Masonic date A.M. 5638, reproduced from the earlier work rather than indicating the date of this edition. Condition: Very Good. Bright blue illustrated wrappers with light surface rubbing, scattered small impressions, minor edge wear, and slight corner creasing. Interior pages appear clean and well preserved, with mild age-related toning and the characteristic show-through of reproduced historical printing. No handwriting or highlighting found No dust jacket, as issued. An attractive reading and reference copy for collectors of Freemasonry, Scottish Rite history, Masonic ritual, and esoteric symbolism. Albert Pike (1809-1891) was an American lawyer, writer, poet, and influential nineteenth-century figure in Scottish Rite Freemasonry. Born in Boston, he spent much of his career in Arkansas and became Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite's Southern Jurisdiction in 1859, holding that position until his death. Pike is best known in Masonic scholarship for his extensive writings on ritual, philosophy, comparative religion, and symbolism, especially his monumental 1871 work Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. His ritual writings reflect a broad engagement with religious history, mythology, classical philosophy, and esoteric traditions. Pike's broader historical legacy is also controversial because of his service as a Confederate brigadier general during the American Civil War. That history is distinct from, but relevant to, a complete understanding of his nineteenth-century career.…
