"Whom do people say that I am?" Jesus once askedhis disciples according to the Gospel of Matthew. Thedisciple's answered, "Some say John the Baptist, otherssay Elijah ... or one of the prophets." This reveals how, even then, there was little consensus over the identity ofthe enigmatic preacher from Galilee. And the controversyendures today. Some modern scholars say that historicalevidence reveals a much different portrait of Jesus than theone in the Christian creeds.
The historical quest has been denounced by someas a frontal assault on Christian faith and an attempt toundermine the Bible's authority. Yet proponents find init hope for a more rational basis for belief and a cleareressence of Jesus's teachings. Many scholars think thegospels are unreliable records since they were written asproclamations, not objective history, decades after Jesus'sdeath. (Excerpted from In Search of Jesus, U.S. News andWorld Report, April 8, 1996.)

Reporting of religious events in Paleo-time could only betold by the word of God, as related in the Book of Genesis. But Biblical and historic man has misinterpreted the timeframe into something within their conceivable history. Wemay have a variance between the actualities of an eventand the Biblical interpretation.
In comparison with the technological knowledgeavailable as we enter the 21st Century, two and threethousand years ago there was incredible ignorance andlack of knowledge regarding nearly all phases of science, physical, social, and theological in comparison with thestate of knowledge as we know it today.
In light of these developments, some theologians areactually a part of the problem in their rigid, dogmaticmind sets. It was only in year 1996 that Pope John PaulII acknowledged that evolution may be a possibility. TheRoman Catholic Church now recognizes, as St. Augustinedid in about year 600 and St. Thomas Aquinas did inabout year 1250, that soul and body exists within the samehuman. This concept has been termed for hundreds ofyears as "dualism". It has been said, "There are laws in thebackground and contingency in the details."
The reader will see conflict between the rationalistand the mystic—between the person who believes in theconventional thought, and the mystic who is searching forsomething beyond conventional thought in an attempt toexplain and to understand.
In writing these pages, I do not portray myself in anyway as a scientist, and I think this is the strength of thisbook.
A scientist would feel compelled to protect hisprofessional reputation, to give lengthy support forthe hypothesis presented, and to provide unquestioneddocumentation for any statements made.
As the author, I do not feel constricted to these limits.I am a layman—a businessman by training, who has wideinterests in many fields. This diversity in backgroundhas fomented and developed a universal, or wide-scopeview in approaching possible solutions to the questionspresented in this book.
My thought mechanisms seem to want a desire to linkadvancements in science to a cause that is spiritual andwhich has a spiritual motivation. In many ways this studyis a reconciliation of science and theology. The two arenot as widely opposed as some people in the past havethought.
It seems that all fields of knowledge present a system ofhow each concept in their respective discipline develops. The fields of knowledge are like brothers and sisters in afamily, all of the same parents, with differences in theirnature, yet held together by their like genes. So, manyknowledge, cultural, and religious systems are different, yet alike.
These concepts many times seem to be related to oneanother. Social science rules have their parallel in provenrules of physical science: rules of accounting state that forevery debit there is a credit, and these have parallels innuclear theory that for every electron there is a proton, the business transaction that triggers accounting entries isparallel to the neutron from which electrons and protonsemanate.
I see at least three ways to study science: 1) Theacademic, laboratory, experimental way, to prove ordisprove some question or hypothesis—necessary, butmundane. 2) The theoretical method, employed byphysicist and mathematicians—the real fun of the chase. 3)The way of reason, multi-disciplinary association, and gutfeeling, a way used in brainstorming, where conventionallimitations are dismissed from mind in order to create newsolutions, or at least new questions to be studied later.
In industry, these three styles might be illustrated by:1) the worker, who is operational and actually makes theproduct, 2) the manager or foreman who coordinates theefforts in a sensible way, and 3) the executive or planner, who is paid to be creative and come up with better waysto run the enterprise, considering the multiple challengesthat exist in the universe of marketing, finance, future, and practicalities of actual existence. An executive willsometimes, faced with many subjects vying for his time, employ separate specialized entities, perhaps a researcheror planner, to concentrate on a particular aspect of hisresponsibilities.
So, in science, experts will explore in depth certainspecialized topics. I see future research, experimentation, and exploration as confirmation (and some rejection) oftheories and analysis presented here.
I visualize intuitive insight into how something mightbe, to infer, theorize, or simply speculate on its exactnature. I have tried to be a futurist, using cognitive subjectsfor wellspring ideas.
I hope to present a meeting ground for fundamentalistadvocates who hold that words stated in the Bible standwithout question, and the evidence before us that disputessome aspects given in the Bible, if taken literally.
I hope to present an integrated and plausible theoryof how and when souls were created by God, how theyfunctioned over the many eons to be God's messengers, acting to shape evolution.
Jesus, an intellectual and moral spiritual leader of Histime, was tried and crucified because He was facing anestablishment in which religion was simply an arm ofgovernment. One can compare the joint functioning oflaws in present-day Moslem countries and present-dayChristian oriented governments that separate church andstate in this regard.
One can also contrast a world in which science andgovernment are separate, versus that existing in a countrywhere science and government are interrelated, heavilysubsidized, and acting almost as one. In the latter, willscience evolve to be a tool of government, controlled bygovernment, and without freedom and independence ofthought?
It has been said that a mind once stretched by a newidea, never regains its original dimensions. It also can betaken that in the wondrous creation of earth and life overthe many eons, all things which can occur, have, and dooccur.
I suspect that even God has experienced some failuresin his development of life and biological trials. We can citeevolutionary regression, or loss of developed mutations inthe evolved biological anthropology of man as an example. The record lies in the genes of mankind.
From failures improvements evolved. I don't thinkGod is through with mankind yet. There is bound to befurther refinements, and perhaps some failures, as therehas been for over 4 1/2 billion years, when, I believe Godfirst manifested Himself with life forms in this cosmos.
I imagine that most men and women feel that theywould like to retain and remember all of the knowledgeto which they have been exposed—the information orexperiences which they have read, or heard, or seen, oranalyzed, or have been the subject of their associatedthoughts. This, however, is impossible. If I read the whole20 volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica on the shelf ofmy living room, I could retain and absorb only a fractionof the information contained therein.
But the association of bits of information and essenceof knowledge regarding various fields that relate to oneanother is, I believe, the essence of learning. The bits ofinformation then cease to be only bits, but become anintegral part of the more complete understanding of thevarious subjects associated.
It is like the supply of individual bricks, sitting at aconstruction site (the bits of information), finally servinga more complete service when the mason has assembledthem to become a whole building (the essence of knowledgeand understanding of a field). Each bit of informationsupports and relates to each other bit of information in thewhole to become a significant, recognizable, rational andlogical structure. In this way, a city is built, although it willprobably never be completed. From such structuring andanalysis, wisdom is built.
A basic tenet of science is that there is a reason foreverything. With this tenet, we need only to find what thatreason is. Without action or change, we have inertia onlyto remain at rest.
I suggest that if the reader disagrees with some aspectpresented here, that he (or she) separately pick out exactlywhat is disagreed with, and not throw out the entireconcept. Perhaps an improvement in the reasoning processwill result. The modern-day automobile was inconceivablein the initial years of its conception. Continual honingof the ideas were required to attain our present state ofusefulness. To cite a cliche, "Rome wasn't built in a day."
We will all die. It is just a matter of when, where, andthe circumstances. Death levels all things.
In the story of "We live In Two Worlds", the authorreflects and recognizes the teachings of past philosophersthat soul exists within, but separate and distinct from thebody, and that soul continues on in existence after the bodyhas died.
These ideas are not new. It may be that it is only one'spersonal realization that is new, of the idea that we areliving in two worlds. The concept of a soul existing withinman goes back at least to Plato and Aristotle, to PopeGregory, St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, to the Stoics ofAncient Greece, and to leading church men in history, aswell as to many religious followers. Some persons, eventoday, have not come to the realization that man is morethan an animal body, that he, or she, has a soul, a spirit ofGod, that exists within his material body.
The idea of the origin of the soul may be new andunique with this writing. Less unique may be the idea ofthe existence and appearance of the soul during our ownlifetime, as well as at times in the past, and the eventualvictory of the soul, which may in fact replace Cro-Magnonman on earth, as Homo sapiens had replaced Neanderthalman in the past.
The author proposes how the soul came into existenceduring the particle physics evolution prior to, during, andafter the "Big Bang". He proposes the preexistence of Godas an intelligence in a prior cosmos, and that souls are amicrocosm, or micro-division of God.
Souls, therefore, have existed as long as has the earth'screation. This book suggests that all living organisms sincecreation have the potential of having soul, and that soulsperhaps have undergone an evolutionary process, much asthe primate body has evolved to Homo sapiens.
* * *
I first composed my theory espoused here in about 1990after spending a lone weekend at my family cabin andthen driving the four hour trip back to my home. Readingsin scientific journals since that time have elaboratedand supported various aspects of my theory and givenencouragement that other aspects may not be as ridiculousas I first believed. My thoughts were not publicly expressedfor fear of ridicule.
Readings on evolution of "Black Holes" parallel mytheory.
The Big Bang development, cosmic and earth formation, physical and chemical creation of life, evolution of species, events in parapsychology, and historic and Biblicalreadings, all played a part in trying to resolve questionsthrough reason and analysis.
The studies in depth to prepare for this book weremuch more grand than my simplified, conceptualoverview and scheme. The scope of the book is somewhatall-encompassing and I found it necessary in many cases tosummarize the findings, rather than add to the complexityof this "panorama of thought".
Now I find even today yet another study (ScientificAmerican, November, 1994, The Self-ReproducingInflationary Universe) that parallels and supports anelement in my theory that perhaps many "Big Bangs" didexist and created various portions of the cosmos.
There are distinct and separate qualities of souls thatare characterized in the qualities of the mind, as opposedto those of the brain alone. The brain functioning permitslife for animals to live, eat, digest, be mobile, andotherwise serve as living creatures on earth, somewhatas a biological-electrical machine with computer-likeprogramming.
However, the soul exists and is manifested in the mindof Homo sapiens, demonstrating qualities of affection, planning, emotion, insight, intuition, and like qualitiesbeyond what a mere machine or computer could performin the parallel functioning.
The existence of mind and souls within man is presented.Souls, sometimes called spirits or even ghosts, have beenreported, documented as best possible, for hundreds andthousands of years.
Souls play a part in guiding and directing the mindsand bodily functioning of each of us, as they have directedthe functioning of living bodies since the first algae andamoeba life on earth.
The tool for biological change has been manipulation ofRNA and DNA. It is the author's belief that God, operatingthrough souls that manipulated the RNA and DNA of allliving organisms, did, in this way, create and evolve thelife forms on the earth, including man.
The author proposes that a change in religious dogmashould take place that accommodates the practical existenceof soul, and proposes interpretation of the reporting in theBible that would be consistent with these presentations. After all, much of our religious dogma was developedafter the time of Christ.

The continuum of humanoid evolution is projectedforward many millenniums to a state when, as theBible states, "The meek shall inherit the earth." Just aspre-humans evolved in many phases to Neanderthal, thenreplaced by Homo sapiens and Cro-Magnon man, ourpresent form of humanoid existence may, "in another50,000 years or so, evolve into an existence only of souls, human bodies having then become extinct."
With rational, philosophical thought, society has movedaway from the supernatural and the unexplainable. Faithis needed only for the unexplainable. We have come torealize that there is more than one way to look at things.
We realize that exploration into new thoughts requires anopen mind, a willingness to investigate unconventionalideas, theories, and new areas in which to gain knowledge. This book is presented as an effort to reconcile principlesof theology with facts known to science. It has been saidthat God is the greatest scientist. The magnitude of thisconcept is being revealed even further in the current era byrevelations in particle physics, a field of science not evensuspected at the early part of our current century. (See PartII—Creation).
Other facts presently known have been revealed overthe past 2,000 years since the days of Christ on this earth. It is safe to state that further revelations in science, and Ibelieve applicable to theology, will come to be known inthe future.
Presented here is a complex theory: A theory of whatdifferentiates modern man from animals. A theory ofhow and why man, with conscience and ethics, evolvedto be different from other animals, including Simians, atheory springing from accepted biologic, geographic, andotherwise scientific development of the tangible earth andits contents of metallic, as well as organic life, that we callmatter.
