A foreword by Wisconsin Historical Society maritime archaeologist Tamara Thomsen provides insights into Nohl's many important contributions to the diving world and to Wisconsin history and culture. About the Author

Max Gene Nohl was born in Milwaukee in 1913. He was a salvage diver, inventor and scuba innovator, Hollywood consultant, and world record–setting diver before his untimely death at age forty-seven. He is widely considered to be the person who revolutionized deep sea diving.
