Reviews
Eleven chapters present library-skills lesson plans that incorporate games, writing presentations, and art projects. The reproducibles include worksheets, posters, bookmarks, and other materials, such as performance wristbands, badges, and game cards. The book includes activities for 25 to 30 library periods for mainly second through fifth grades. A superhero theme is used to teach the Dewey Decimal system. The author suggests teaching biographies by using the "All-star Sports" theme or the "Hollywood Walk of Fame." The best-seller-list unit teaches book-review skills and includes a checklist and a handout that looks like an open book for the students to write their evaluations on. The content is designed using the American Association of School Librarians' Standards for the 21st Century Learner. Each chapter includes a lesson overview, materials, preparation, standards, lesson objectives, lesson plan, rubric, and extension ideas. The resource guide includes nonprint materials mentioned in the plans and a Web site for the creation of rubrics used in the book.—Debbie S. Hoskins, Grand Rapids Public Library, MI
