The Lives of the Saints: Originally Compiled by the Rev. Alban Butler; Now Edited, Revised, and Copiously Supplemented by Herbert Thurston, S.J. (Butler's Lives of the Saints, Volume III: March)

"The Lives of the Saints" stands as one of the most comprehensive and revered collections of hagiography in the English-speaking world. This specific volume, focusing on the month of March, provides detailed biographical accounts of the holy men and women recognized by the Catholic Church for their extraordinary piety and virtue. From legendary martyrs of the early Church to influential mystics and theologians, each entry explores the historical context, spiritual struggles, and miraculous interventions associated with these celebrated figures.

Revised and supplemented by Herbert Thurston, S.J., this edition preserves the devotional spirit of the foundational work while incorporating updated scholarship and historical rigor. The text serves not only as a daily devotional guide but also as a vital historical record of Christian tradition and the evolution of sanctity over nearly two millennia. Readers will find inspiration in the diverse lives presented, ranging from well-known figures like Saint Patrick and Saint Joseph to lesser-known local saints. Whether used for personal reflection, academic study, or religious instruction, this work remains an essential resource for understanding the profound impact of the saints on Christian history and culture.
