Illustrated with fifteen Highly Finished Engravings. Translated from the Third Paris Edition by William Hazlitt. Published by Bell & Daldy, London, 1872. A very good full leather hardback with blind stamped decorative panels to covers, with the front bearing a gilt Queen Victoria armorial. With prize presentation plate to first pastedown from Glasgow School of Art. Prize for 'Success in the Advanced Section of the Course of Instruction in Art'. The recipient being 'William Pratt', in 1872. Provenance: William Pratt studied at Glasgow School of Art and Academie Julien. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon Royal Academy, and the Royal Scottish Academy, amongst others. He was a talented and highly respected artist, particularly known for his scenes of country life. Covers with light scuffing, and mild wear and bumping to extremities. A handsome book. Soundly bound. Feathered marble endpapers. Some mild offsetting opposite plates. Text is bright and clean throughout, and all edges of text block are finished in red. Occasional minor corner crease. Text in English. Prelims + 474pp + 15 Plates (all as called for). Weight approximately 564g (unpacked). Approximate dimensions: 186mm high x 122mm wide x 34mm deep. More photos on request. Custom three-quarter green leather over light green cloth rubbed on the edges with small scuff, spine sunned to brown. Gilt titles and rules on the six-panel spine are good but not bright, date 1866 at the foot.
