Living or Dead

Are you spiritually alive before God?

In Living or Dead?, J. C. Ryle brings this searching question to the heart of the reader. Across eight biblical addresses, he explores the need for the new birth, the blessing of forgiveness, the pursuit of holiness, and the salvation found in Jesus Christ alone. Each chapter invites honest reflection on the condition of the soul and a thoughtful response to the gospel.

Through the repentant thief at the cross, the faith of Moses, and the hesitation of Lot, Ryle shows how spiritual convictions shape the choices of daily life. He warns against spiritual indifference, misplaced confidence, and attachment to the world, while directing readers to the grace and mercy of Christ.

Clear, earnest, and rich in pastoral concern, this classic calls readers to examine their hearts, repent of sin, trust the Savior, and bear the fruit of new life. It offers thoughtful material for personal devotion, small-group reading, and pastoral conversation, encouraging readers to receive the gospel with faith and live in its transforming light.
