Living in Imitation of Christ A Scriptural Rosary about Men for Men

Christine Haapala's 13th Scriptural Prayer book views the mysteries of the Rosary through the lives of some of the who were part of salvation history and Jesus's world. Does a scriptural rosary about men for men necessarily mean that a Marian prayer will become less Marian? On the contrary, Mary always points to Jesus. Mary, infused with extraordinary humility, will be guiding us to the foot of the Cross and through the gates of Heaven. Illustrations for each rosary mystery feature servants of God, Venerables, Beati, and Saints. These men answered the call to holiness and lived in imitation of Christ.

Christine Haapala taught CCD for many years and through that experience the ideas for prayer books based on Scriptures and the Most Holy Rosary emerged. Her first book From Genesis to Revelation: Seven Scriptural Rosaries, published in 1996 by Christendom Press, which is now in 2nd edition/3rd printing, has been called “the encyclopedia of Scriptural Rosaries.” In the Jubilee year, she started the Catholic publishing company, Suffering Servant Scriptorium, which publish scriptural prayer books and prayer recordings. The works include The Suffering Servant’s Courage (now in 2nd Edition with Luminous Mysteries), Speak, Lord, I am Listening (a children’s book, now in 2nd Edition with Luminous Mysteries), His Sorrowful Passion (Scriptural Chaplet of Divine Mercy), and Psalter of Jesus and Mary. Another title, In His Presence, is a seven-visit Scriptural meditation prayer book based on the seven virtues, is to be prayed during Eucharistic Adoration, and features illustrations from Dante's Divine Comedy. Other titles include Seraphim and Cherubim A Scriptural Chaplet of the Holy Angels, Pearls of Peace A Scriptural Rosary based on the writings of St. Paul and illustrated with photography from the Holy Land and Sanctify my Heart A Scriptural Novena to the Holy Spirit. Her newer titles published in 2021 are “In the Beginning…” A Scriptural Rosary according to the Pentateuch and Priest Prophet King Three Scriptural Rosaries. Christine Haapala wrote and recorded a Scriptural Rosary The Sanctity of Life Scriptural Rosary that awakens all to God’s message of the dignity and sanctity of life. Additionally, the Penitential Psalms Scriptural Chaplet of Divine Mercy from her book His Sorrowful Passion is available as a prayer recording Time for Mercy. Speak, Lord, I am Listening, has been featured on the Catholic Best Seller's List three times. This book continues to be a favorite choice for teaching and increasing devotion to the Most Holy Rosary. While written for the 2nd-6th grade age group, all ages find it inspiring.
