Ramon Llull (Palma de Mallorca, 1232/1233 - 1315/1316) va ser un rellevant escriptor, fil�sof, m�stic, te�leg, professor i missioner mallorqu� del segle XIII. La seva obra escrita �s la m�s extensa produ�da per un sol autor medieval, la redact� en catal�, occit�, llat� i �rab. �s considerat el primer autor literari rellevant en catal� i el primer autor medieval a fer servir una llengua rom�nica per transmetre coneixements filos�fics, teol�gics i m�stics. Tamb� fou el primer a escriure-hi novel�la moral, i un dels primers a fer-hi divulgaci� cient�fica i t�cnica. Ramon Llull fou un cortes� de vida mundana que pat� una transformaci� religiosa als trenta anys, a partir de la qual dedic� la seva vida al proselitisme cristi�, especialment entre els jueus i musulmans. La difusi� del seu pensament la realitz� mitjan�ant l'escriptura, l'ensenyament, els viatges, la disputa amb autoritats teol�giques, la petici� a papes i reis o la fundaci� de centres de formaci� missionera. Llull cre� un sistema filos�fic que denomin� l'Art, que integrava en un tot coherent la religi�, la filosofia, la ci�ncia, la moral i l'ordre social, que havia de demostrar la superioritat del cristianisme i facilitar aix� la conversi� dels practicants d'altres religions. A partir de Ramon Llull es va crear un corrent filos�fic i religi�s de partidaris denominat lul�lisme.
