Logic, Theoretical and Practical: a Text-Book for Teachers and Students

Logic, Theoretical And Practical: A Text-Book For Teachers And Students by William Dexter Wilson offers a comprehensive and accessible exploration of logic, blending theoretical foundations with practical application. The book covers the nature and scope of logic, distinguishes between observation, insight, and reasoning, and delves into the theory of propositions, formulas, and syllogisms. It also addresses practical applications, including the logic of diction, fallacies in language and method, and the rules of proof and refutation. Key topics include classification, the analysis of relations among quality, quantity, causality, and unity, as well as the role of language in logical thought. The text features discussions on immediate inferences, various types of syllogisms (categorical, comparative, conditional, and disjunctive), and a thorough examination of argumentative techniques, including how to test arguments, identify fallacies, and evaluate evidence.
