London and Edinburgh Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science, 1849, Vol. 35 (Classic Reprint)

A rich snapshot of mid-19th‑century science, this issue gathers experimental reports, chemical analyses, and meteorological notes that shaped the era’s understanding of matter and nature.

Readers will find detailed experiments on the inorganic constituents of common substances, including milk, the white and yolk of eggs, and yeast, along with discussions of phosphoric acids, phosphates, and ash compositions. The pages also cover electricity, magnetism, and the physical explanations behind natural phenomena, plus extensive notes from meteorology and the Royal Society.

• In-depth analyses of the inorganic makeup of milk, egg white and yolk, and yeast, with emphasis on phosphoric compounds and pigments.
• Reports on electricity and magnetism, including the effects of magnetism on heat and the rotation of polarized light.
• Meteorological observations and discussions from diverse locations, contributing to the era’s climate and weather understanding.
• Notices and proceedings from leading societies, alongside methodological notes on incineration, chemical analysis, and mineralogical findings.
