A Very Long Day with Elijah: The Contest (Bible Patterns for Young Readers)

Inspired by Bill Martin Jr.’s friendship and writing, Lee Jenkins writes a moment by moment account of the historical contest between Elijah and the Baal prophets. The wonderful illustrations created by Jim Chansler greatly add to children’s enjoyment of this story.

The Bible Patterns for Young Readers series is unique among Bible stories for children because they are written for beginning readers, ages 4-7. After parents, other adults or older children read the books to young children, they will pick up the patterns and read the books themselves.
