This stunning, large-format book, the first-ever publication for Berlin-basedpainter Christoph Steinmeyer, features 39 photorealist works thatfeel more like cinematic dream sequences than paintings. The artist'smagical symbolism morphs images in a captivating way; surfaces of theluxurious interiors and full-color still lifes featured here look as thoughthey have been melted in a flame. Steinmeyer assembles bits of imagesfrom many sources, so paintings have a strangely familiar feel, but seenthrough a sumptuous funhouse mirror. Even when he apparently worksin black and white, condensing the settings of black and white films, colors animate the paint surface like veins in marble.
