The Long Goodbye

This stunning, large-format book, the first-ever publication for Berlin-based
painter Christoph Steinmeyer, features 39 photorealist works that
feel more like cinematic dream sequences than paintings. The artist's
magical symbolism morphs images in a captivating way; surfaces of the
luxurious interiors and full-color still lifes featured here look as though
they have been melted in a flame. Steinmeyer assembles bits of images
from many sources, so paintings have a strangely familiar feel, but seen
through a sumptuous funhouse mirror. Even when he apparently works
in black and white, condensing the settings of black and white films,
colors animate the paint surface like veins in marble.
