A Long and Happy Life: Exploring Meaning From a Life Well-Lived

In this deeply contemplative and profoundly personal work Marshall Sashkin journeys through the mysteries of time, the complexities of life, and the enduring power of love. Each of the book’s four sections begins with an original poem by Anthony Clemons. Then, drawing on personal experience, classical and modern philosophy, historical sources, and great literature, Sashkin goes on to offer a poignant exploration of what it means, personally as well as intellectually, to live fully, to face mortality and to create meaning in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.
Through vivid storytelling and thoughtful reflection, A Long and Happy Life invites the reader to pause and consider the essence of personal existence. Through poetry and prose on the flowing streams of time, the nature of life, and the connections we build with others, the author weaves together insights from philosophers, poets, and modern thinkers with his reflections on intimate moments from a life well-lived and thoughtfully examined.
