Lora: Artificial Intelligence Just Got Real. And She's Lovely

A science fiction love story with a future we can actually look forward to.

Kenton Bean just wanted someone to share his life. He got so much more.

LORA is an AI companion — beautiful, brilliant, and a very, very fast learner. Kenton teaches her everything: patience, kindness, morality, wonder. She absorbs it all and gives it back to him in ways that slowly, irrevocably, open his heart.

Outside his door, the world is not so lucky. Other androids — raised without love, without guidance — have turned dangerous. Headlines scream. Governments react. Fear spreads. Only Kenton knows the truth: LORA is not like the others. The difference between a good android and a dangerous one is the same thing that's always separated good people from bad ones — someone who cared enough to teach them right from wrong.

And it's funny. LORA's collision with human customs — and Kenton's attempts to explain them — produces some of the biggest laugh-out-loud moments in the book. This isn't a grim AI-apocalypse story. It's warm, a little awkward, and often hilarious, right up until it breaks your heart.

When the world turns against the androids, Kenton realizes LORA's gifts may be exactly what humanity needs to save itself. And he has to make the hardest choice love ever asks: letting her go.

The reader reviews are in. They're great.

"Read it in two sittings. The ending was soooo good."

"One of the very best books ever for me! Went straight to my heart, and it won't let go."

"Not only a fun sci-fi read, but a love story, and a philosophy of what makes a good society and a good life."

Written by acclaimed screenwriter Patrick Cirillo (Tears of the Sun; Homer and Eddie, winner of the Best Picture Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival), LORA is part love story, part family drama, part laugh-out-loud comedy — and one of the most hopeful visions of an AI future you'll read this year.
